I don't know..., it seems that the one star reviews outnumber the five star reviews by about three to one!!! And over 100 one star reviews to boot!!! I don't believe that I can recall seeing so many one star reviews for a major motion picture release, ever.
I don't know...,as a teen I saw the original tv series on ABC-TV in the sixties and loved it, especially the Emma Peel episodes.
And it seems that most of the complaints against the film version are centered on the mis-cast leads and lack of FEEL for the essence of the original.
OK, I agree, completely. But that said, this movie is really not as bad as it's made out to be. I actually kind of liked it, thought it was fun...better than most Bond movies of the last 20 or so years. Different, strange, off-the-wall, like the TV Avengers, but yet not even close. Stylish perhaps in it's own over-the-top sense of failure.
Not Steed and Emma as we have known and loved them...but certainly not one star replicants!
5 stars for fun and trying. The film looks good...I found it exciting and even laughed at the proper places...sometimes.
2 stars for the ultimate result...I too miss what the original series delivered. This version no doubt lacks class and a true sense of everything the original series personified.
Final rating: 3 stars.
We sometimes tend to be too harsh on those who upset our belief system... It's really not THAT bad. |
