Not as gripping as his previous 2 films

| Don't get me wrong, this is another great anime by Shinkai but I found its plot and characters to be a combination of rehashes from his first 2 films. Reguardless, if you're a fan of Voices of a Distant Star or Place Promised in our Early Days then this movie will definitley be enjoyable for you. I found the ending left something to be desired and it almost seemed unfinished. Maybe this is what the director had in mind, i'm not sure. I did like how they broke the story up into 3 separate episodes, with part one being my favorite. There is a decent amount of special features on here but it seemed that ADV went a little skimpy on the packaging. The first 2 Shinkai movies were given reverse covers with lyrics, pictures and information on the films, as well as a booklet insert with text from Shinkai himself. 5 Centimeters Per Second has neither of these. I'd say thats because ADV rushed this out, but it got delayed over 3 months (originally was intended for a December 2007 release) so i guess laziness/cheapness is the case here. Either way, I recommend the film to all Shinkai fans. |
