Saw III - The Director's Cut (Two-Disc Special Edition) description
The first Saw picture actually had an idea behind it, to say nothing of the ingenuity of its low-budget production; making a silk purse out of a bloody, maggot-ridden human ear, as it were. With Saw III, the franchise pretty much settles into gore for gore's sake, as it explores newer and better ways to traumatize the body--and the audien ... review details

♥♥♥♥ My Favorite In The Series
Wow, two reviews in one day. What a treat for you, my loyal readers.

"Saw III" is actually a good movie. For the first time in the series they deliver what the promised. They live up to thier potential. There are some flaws though.

First let me give you a brief summary of the plot. "Saw III" picks up exactly where "Saw II" left off. Dectective Matthews is held in the custody of Jigsaw's new apprentice Amanda (remember her). He is in the same room that was used with the two main characters in "Saw I". Quickly that somewhat wrap his storyline up, and then be prepared to forget about him for quite some time. We then meet the main characters or victims of this film. The first is a Doctor who is taken captive by Amanda, to keep Jigsaw alive long enough to witness his newest test subject. Jigsaw is not in good shape and it looks like he could die at any second. If Jigsaw dies, the doctor will lose her head, as a device is strapped to around her neck that will go off if she moves to far away, or if Jigsaw flatlines. We then meet the new test subject. His name is Jeff, and his son was killed in by I think a drunk driver, or at least a bad one. He is set on the path of forgivness. For the longest time he has neglected his daughter and his whole life to a life of obsession, obsession over killing the people he has blamed for the death of his son. Now he has the chance. In each room there is one person who he has blamed for the death of his son, and he has the chance to save them from the contraptions that they are in, or let them die. And lying at the end of the game is the man who killed his son.

Their is also the development of Jigsaw's new apprentice Amanda. (Remember Becker? She was the dumb secretary). Unfortunatly for the people she tests, she does not follow the same rules that Jigsaw does. Outside the main story thier are a few other people that are affected by her. But she speacializes in false hope. She gives them truly impossible situations to get out of, and even if they do exactly as she has asked them to do they are doomed. While it is more cruel than Jigsaw, it makes the concept a little bit less interesting. But don't worry, it is all made up for in the conclusion.

The acting in this movie is good. They tell us what is expected of the characters, and the consequences that would happen if they don't follow. And the characters for the first time in this series remember that. This is not like the second one where it was all about the killings. This time the killings actually help to further the plot, not just to please the audience. The writing is more natural than it has been in the last 2, and it has a very pleasing ending, making me wonder how exactly they did the next one. But I know they did because "Saw IV" is already out in theaters.

They also throw in some information to further explain events in "Saw I" and "Saw II". This was interesting and fun, and made "Saw II" a little bit more worth my watching it. But another movie should not be needed to make another one worth watching.

Because they made the cast smaller than the second one, and they increased the length of this movie, there was more time for character development in this movie. Although sometimes it can seem a bit forced, it works.

A few problems. Although they offer a little bit of an explanation to what happend to Detective Matthews, they don't show 100% what happend to him. Some things don't further the plot, they are just there to put in a fun or interesting scene. I had another but I forgot it so it must have not been that horrible.

All in all this movie is pretty fun, and has gotten me excited again for this series. I will probably go see "Saw IV" tomorrow or the day after and I look forward to giving you my review.

I give "Saw III" a 7 out of 10
