♥♥♥♥♥ I'm a believer.
I got the first season on DVD a few weeks ago and now, just like they said, I'm hooked. I don't generally care about TV at all, but this group of people is doing something unique. The Wire, as far as I am concerned, isn't just another show, cop show or otherwise. This is Shakespeare ('for real') the other stuff is, whatever, apparently produced on a conveyer belt.

I am not sure what's so different about this show. David Simon says they revel in 'detail' and it's made for DVD in that you can catch things going on in the background when you watch it again. It is slower than other cop shows and you don't have the bad guy getting caught every week. It's gritty, the characters are well rounded, it's doesn't have that jerky, show offy camera style that was fashionable in the genre a while back. Each show has many different stories going on in it. The acting is first rate, the direction is assured, the plots are rich, the dialogue is convincing and pungent. It just seems so 'real'. It looks like they film in actual projects, jails, bars, police offices. They pay attention to this stuff and you can feel it.

They just got it right I guess. This show is classic and people'll still be watching it decades from now. I simply have to say, no, just agree with all the other people, this is the best show ever. Seriously. Best show ever. Actors, writers, directors, photographers, and everyone else I don't know about, simply the best thing I've seen. What can I say? You all knocked it out of the park. Know this.
