I do not believe they set out to make a truly accurate movie with Tombstone. I believe their goal MUST have been simply to entertain, a la the spaghetti western... Costner and Kasdan set out to make an epic hollywood movie about a historical figure... to tell his life story in as interesting (but factual) manner as possible. Yes there were some inaccuracies, such as Virgil being shot on the same night Morgan was murdered, but they were minor compared to the TRUTH that went into this adventure...
