Why do I give this movie five stars? Because it is funny. That's all. I really liked it. The story is bizarre, the writing the height of silliness, and the acting intentionally goofy. It's also got a fair amount of gross out humor, which I usually don't enjoy. But in this case I'm willing to make an exception.
There's some great extras as well, surprising for a low budget, forgotten film like this. They're not all great, but they're still included. That's pretty cool.
The favorite part for me is seeing William Sadler, Keanu Reeves, and Randy Quaid acting in this strange film. Sadler as head of the EES corporation has perhaps the greatest evil line ever uttered by a ruthless bad guy.
Freaked is sort of a cross between Mad magazine, Monty Python, and Airplane. It won't appeal to everyone, but it's still pretty damn funny after all these years. Rent it before you buy it if you want to play it safe. |
