The Last House on the Left description

Shouldn't be considered a horror flick.

| I'm not sure what genre I'd put this in but it wouldn't be horror. The movie isn't scary at all. I can see it being very shocking and controversial for the year it came out and I guess there are some scenes that would still be considered shocking and controversial today. And on paper I think they definitely are. But on the screne they're not that shocking to me. The pitch for this movie is "keep telling yourself, It's only a movie, It's only a movie" I think that's a bit ridiculous! At NO point did I feel this movie was real or I was a part of it. It comes off kind of cheesy to me. The acting isn't that good for the most part. The screenplay isn't that good, and the directing isn't that good. Also it seems like the shocking scenes were strictly put in to be shocking. Like the scene where they pull out some of the girls intestines. First of all you only see about 3 seconds of it. Secondly, why would they do this? They're not cannibals. They don't play in the blood or rub it on themselves. So the fact that they would do this seems completely unrealistic. I give it 2 1/2 stars for taking the chances it did in 1972. Other than that it's not very good. |
