| 'The Event' is a triumphant concert given by Luciano Pavarotti at the conclusion of the 1990 World Cup soccer tournament in Italy. He is in fine voice and feeds off the capacity crowd, which included soccer stars such as Pele and members of the Italian national team. Photography on the tape is fairly typical of concert-type videos and the sound quality is not what we've come to expect in the late 1990s. But the best available techniques were used when it was filmed and the result captures Pavarotti in full operatic voice. Highlights include: La Mia Letizia Infondere, Vesti la Giubba, Una Furtiva Lagrima, and of course, Torna a Surriento and Nessun Dorma. A treat for Pavarotti fans and for the unitiated, a good example of the star tenor's unique talents. |
