| Petula Clark was one of those icons that I grew up listening to out the door of my sisters bedroom, then adopted her for my own enjoyment. Having just gone through a wave of nostalgia -- MANY YEARS LATER -- I have enjoyed the revisiting of Dusty Springfield as well as Pet. Pet hasn't fared quite so well -- and the concert filmed in Virginia was painful at best to watch. Whereas I agree with one of the other reviewers that it is nice to HAVE a concert filmed with Petula, I think it would have been a better foray into the artist past with more television clips -- archival footage -- and maybe only a smattering of the concert that showcased an aging Petula who couldn't hit the notes that we were all waiting for her to belt out. God BLESS her for having the GUTS to go out and DO the concert when I'm sure she KNEW it wasn't going to be her best. Still, the audience seemed appreciative, and I'm sure it was better received IN CONCERT than canned on a DVD. I'm looking for all those wonderful television spots she had -- and hopefully they will honor her long career with that instead! | |
