Stephen King's It description
Is there anything scarier than clowns? Of course not. And who knows scary better than Stephen King? You see where we're going. It puts a malevolent clown (given demented life by a powdered, red-nosed Tim Curry) front and center, as King's fat novel gets the TV-movie treatment. Even at three hours plus, the action is condensed, but an engaging review details

♥♥♥♥ The Clown of Doom : Still Terrifying After All These Years
My brother and I are to this day absolutely terrified of clowns. Blame it on Pennywise, the hideous beast-clown portrayed so excellently here by Tim Curry. Incidentally this was the first time I had seen Tim Curry in anything, and even when I see his movies today, all I can think of is this movie. To be fair, this WAS a TV film, and watching this recently I was reminded of how movies one watched in the 1980s when one was a child, are now close to unwatchable. Not so with this film, for the most part, because for some strange reason, I had forgotten most of the story - and the chills genuinely worked, all over again.

I read the book "IT" when I was ten years old. Sleepless nights ensued, and when my brother and I first watched the film, we were struck by real, honest-to-goodness terror. This is hardly a movie for children. However, what the book had in eloquence (really, "IT" is perhaps the best-written King novel of them all, because he used some beautiful language and imagery in it), the movie makes up with shocks and thrills, and of course, the clown and his sly smile (and the teeth - good Lord, those teeth) are enough to drive young teens insane with fear.

Still, for people who are watching this for the first time now, it might all be a bit tame. The only thing really scary is the clown, and the horrible music score really dates the film and reveals it as a tacky TV miniseries. Still, that's not bad considering this is still very watchable and it will work perfectly for a Saturday night at home with friends. Another thing - it holds up to repeat viewing, another plus in this day and age, so you might want to consider actually buying a copy. This is cool, vintage 80s terror, and what a great era that was.
