4 stars for the movie, 5 for the dvd

first off if yu have seen this you know it is a pretty unique find. And this crash cinema is a VERY clear picture.
The last reviewer did a good job of reviewqign this. he doesn't seem to be a huge fan of this stuff, which is all the reason more for everybody to buy it. I don't know anyone who can honestly say they didn't enjoy fist of legend, it was just waesome.
Now this is no fist of legend. But for an independent production, and not exactly making it look like they are hitting eachother every time. Still with all of that said there are some SWEET stunts that are done. And every time somebody jumps over a wall, it takes like 7 cuts to get him over. And while the editing is a bit choppy, they will have a buch of cuts leading up to the fight, but then when a guy gets thrown through a brick wall, there is not a single cut. And some of the fights are so outrageuos, you will be rewinding them not to see the super high leg kick the guy did, but rather to see the way it was shot so sweet. And EVERYONE of the main stars can fight like no ther in this one. Mang Fei is surely the worst of the bunch, but he is still pretty good, and his doubling work was done very well.
Now the reason this gets 4 stars is cause of the comedy. Not only does it have some of the greatest dubbed lines ever like "whenever yoo need me, I'll be there", but the guy who dubbed jack long's voice is a veteran who puts on a solid perfomance, and then the comedy is actually really funny. There is a part where jack long gets in a fight and when the guy attacks jack(nancy boy), he dodges and the guy lands on the ground. Jack goes over to fight him and he lifts the guys head up and says "you are already dead, you die easily". There has to be at least 8 other moments that I can think of that had that sort of funnieness to it. Liek I said the reviewer did a good job, but I wanted to add that Tao tan-liang?? is not part of these guys group and maybe that's wehy he thought it was a drama, cause he is so much different than the other guys(ladies man{mang fei}, gambler(blacky ko) and nancy boy(jack long).
But I assure you that all of the deaths are quite funny and all of the dialogue in the fights are even funnier. The villian could have been better especially the main one, but there is a dude in a yellow robe, and a guy who IS A KILLING MACHINE, who make up for that.
No special features or nothing, but this movie is the uncut version, if there is one, but you getting the longest version at least that you can. And look for kjack long, if you are a fan of 7 grandmasters, you will probably be able to spot him, he doesn't fight too much, at least he does less than the others, but let's just say that he has a little bit of a different look. So don't expect 7 grandmasters good, but if yyou are a mang fie fan, blacky, or dorian tan fan(tan tao-liang), then I guess that I forgot to mention this is my favorite performance ever from them, except blcky, he has a few that beats his perfomacnce inthis. I have to quit typing so just buy this movie NOW!!!!!!!!! |
