A Christmas Carol description
In the same year that he directed a handsome version of The Scarlet Pimpernel for television, Clive Donner also made this worthy 1984 small-screen production of the Dickens tale. George C. Scott can't quite muster a decent English accent, but he does bring some new colors to this movie's interpretation of Scrooge, making the character less nasty for the sake of nastiness and more a product of a life of lovelessness. The supporting cast is first-rate, and the production is far more handsome than most TV fare. --Tom Keogh

♥♥♥♥ Typical for the 80's
This is a typical 80's production movie. I really hate to even review it because the 80's saw very few classic movies. The only reason for this review is because it is so bad and the story itself is so classic. I was unimpressed with the sets in the movie. The costume design did not reflect the times of the movie well, and my gosh the acting....I mean George C. Scott? Has he ever been in anything good? Patton is the only movie that makes his name one to even remember. His rendition of scrooge is just plain BAD. This movie as a whole should never had been made. I think that is the reason the only way one would see it is to buy it on VHS/DVD. Fortunately I have never see it air on T.V. during the holiday season. This is good for two reasons 1) no other innocent people have to be subjected to such a bad rendition of a classic story and, 2) because it doesn't air during the holiday season just goes to prove I'm not crazy and that the networks think it sucks too, or I guess it would be a seasonal classic movie that airs every Christmas like Miracle on 54th ST. (Classic, awesome), Bells of St. Mary (Classic, awesome) and It's A Wonderful Life (YUCK! don't like it personally to sugary sweet for me).
