♥♥♥♥ Deserved recognition
As part of the classic albums series which has cherry picked from a number of genres but has been particularly, and unusually, kind to the hard rock and heavy metal sphere of influence this DVD is a welcome release. The Def Leppard saga is perhaps one that might put many off buying anything to do with them given how vital a rock band was gradually worn down by a desperate need for acceptance/success but regardless of what you may think of their intentions and their rather undignified journey through the 90's that fact remains that the Hysteria album was one of the biggest selling meal tickets of the 80's and with seven singles strolling up a singles chart near you the band certainly were high achievers in the hair metal years.

This DVD has the usual discussion by various industry figures and the band themselves and does not gloss over some of the problems the band had faced in their climb to fame and fortune. An easily navigated menu is a feature of all the classic albums DVD's I've seen and the concise nature of the chapters makes for a logical flow. The story is told from a few angles and the special features actually do complement what is discussed in the basic' documentary section, which is what most of us got to see on TV whenever this stuff was aired.

Fans of Def Leppard should lap this up as it does give you some insight into the music making process (to be fair this is the least interesting bit IMHO) but also some of the thinking that went into the creation and marketing of the album which is what I found most intriguing.

I suppose the greatest success of this DVD is that it got me trawling through my Def Leppard CD's and playing some of them again - well OK, I was playing High n' Dry and Pyromania - but you get the point. A fun and mostly engaging rockumentary.
