The story continues from Pendulum Room in Doom, and is a masterpiece of carefully controlled emotions on the part of the Z fighters. Goku, true to form, takes pure joy from his training in spite of the dangers looming over his family and home. We begin to realize that his joyful lack of cares (rather than brooding over his missing family) is the source of his prowess as a fighter. Gohan, too, follows in his father's footsteps, bonding with his mentor Piccolo and planting the seeds of goodness in the Namekian's heart. Piccolo struggles with near-fatherly pride in his young pupil as well as with the unfamiliar blossoming of paternal love in his heart. The Z fighters training under Kami manage to rein their fear in check without descending into hubris again. And the flashbacks to planet Vegeta to explain Goku's heritage are fascinating.
Note that this is the 'cut', English-dubbed version. I prefer this version to the Japanese one, but not everyone does so buy with care. |
