Nazi antisemitic propaganda
|
This film was made prior to the holocaust and was used to "educate" people as to the traits of the Jews. The film's creator, Fritz Hippler, said that Joseph Goebbels was truly the creator of The Eternal Jew with close supervision of Hitler after the war. In an interview shown in the 2000 German documentary series Holocaust, the 90-year old Hippler described the film as "the most disgraceful example of antisemitism".
Even though this film was released in German cinemas in 1940, it was a failure. Audiences that had been accustomed to the elegant cinematography of directors such as Leni Riefenstahl in Triumph of the Will and Olympia and even to such popular antisemitic features as Jud SA ss found that this film was exaggerated and extreme.
The only reason to watch this film is to see an example of Nazi antisemitic propaganda and to learn to spot similar uses of these images. These images and beliefs are still with us today.
I wonder if these pictures are from the Warsaw Ghetto (Hippler was the only film maker to document the uprising there). The film is of Polish Jews, but I am not sure if they had been sent to the Ghetto at the time this film was made.
Fortunately, you do not need to buy this film to see it. In fact, I would strongly suggest not buying it as most people selling it are antisemitic. |
