The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over - DTS description
The long-defunct, Southern California band regrouped for an album, an expensive tour (expensive for ticket buyers, that is), and this televised special, which features the Eagles in performance. Laid-back but sharp and even stirring during a longish acoustic set, the guys quickly get past the nostalgia element and sound truly viable. They even make it look easy: the sight of Joe Walsh wearing glasses and sitting in almost perfect repose as he effortlessly colors old hits "Tequila Sunrise" and new material such as "Learn to Be Still" may make you wonder why you ever stashed that guitar in the attic. But the band eventually gets off their stools and rocks out on "Hotel California" and other Eagles standards. All in all, it's an enjoyable and mellowing show. --Tom Keogh |

Take it Easy - Unplugged

| When hell freezes over the Eagles will reunite - well it sure did and the Eagles are simply "cool" - long may that continue. Just goes to show, never say never. These guys were a favourite of mine back in the 70's and like a good wine still very consumable 25 years later. The only reason why I didn't give this DVD a 5/5 rating was due to the MTV format and not due to the recording or the performance (which are indeed 5 star). Let's face it - Hotel California is just not the same "unplugged" without the screaming guitars (even if Don Felder is playing on this DVD). If you had to buy only ONE Eagles DVD then go for the recently released "Farewell I Tour". It is the THE one to have (see my other review). But hey, if you are an Eagles junkie - add this to your collection, enjoy the "softer songs" unplugged and Take It Easy. |
