Go Spragga! Keepin' It Dancehall Massive...

| I thought that now Spragga is in a big relationship with the Ill Nana he'd take the opportunity to try to earn some cross-over sheen (and some higher end Yankee dollars). Hey, I was wrong. But that's a good thing. It seems as if Foxy's gaining some lessons in how to act like a well-behaved West Indian woman while Spragga's just doing what he's been doing all along. "Thug Nature" does not contain a single reggae-dancehall hybrid, no guest appearances by non-reggae MCs, no attempts at smoothed out R&B. Nothing but pure dancehall. Even the cover picture is retro-grimy. As a matter of fact, just about every single cut sounds like it was made for juggling purposes only. This is not to say that "Thug Nature" is not for "the American market", but just that Spragga had the good sense not to pander to some... who need to catch up, not have their hand held as they explore the "exotic" world of Jamaican music. That's what Wyclef is for. The furthest Spragga gets as far as American style goes is FLATBUSH. |
