Authorities in the United States and Canada contest forest fires that seem to be getting worse with each fire season; now, a controversial new approach to controlling the problem has taken shape. In the forests of Banff National Park, park wardens are deliberately setting fires called "prescribed burns" in order to prevent larger, hotter, more voracious fires, as well as regenerate the land by setting up optimum conditions for flora and fauna to thrive.
