Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man [Region 2] description
This disappointment from Jim Jarmusch stars Johnny Depp in a mystery-Western about a 19th-century accountant named William Blake, who spends nearly all his money getting to a hellish mud town in the old West and ends up penniless and doomstruck in the wilderness. A benevolent if goofy Native American (Gary Farmer) takes an interest in guiding Blake on a quest for identity in his earthly journey, but the film is really just a string of endless shtick about inbred woodsmen, dumb lawmen, and a trio of irritable killers. With Robert Mitchum, Iggy Pop, Gabriel Byrne, Alfred Molina, and a noodling soundtrack by Neil Young. --Tom Keogh |

watch this at least once..blows tradition out of the water

| I rented this recently and the reason I had is because I am a serious fan of Johnny Depp and his range of acting and character development. First of all, there are some aspects of the traditional western film but viewed in a much different light. Shot in black and white, this is really a very beautiful movie. All of the actors were chosen well to suit the roles they had played and the meaning of the movie can be explained many different ways and it is is one of the films that sticks with you after you see it. I will not be buying this film but I do not regret seeing it. Violence is not such a problem but it is more a disturbing film in some of the shots. Very original, the Neil Young soundtrack doesn't really make an impact while watching, it didn't me anyway. If you are a fan of westerns and are tired of the typical HIGH NOON, see this film after the kiddies are asleep of course. Depp is great, the way he is dressed and the train ride out west seeing the different passengers change as he is further into his voyage is very well done. |
