| I do like this film better than most. My initial impulse for buying it came because I wanted to see a Quebecois film, a french-language film not from France. It's facinatingly told by a fish waiting for his fate. The main character, Bibian is beautiful but kind of unlikeable. But during some of the scenes with her blonde friend, you can glimpse a little bit of sunshine in Bibian. Some tragedies happen to her and she ends up creating a second chance for herself. I have not seen very many canadian films, but I would recommend this one to anyone who appreciates good cinema. It's also a cool portrait of contempory life in Montreal, though I don't know how realistic it can really be. And there are a few scenes that could have been done without, like the end where the fish will reveal the meaning of life and then something happens to stop him, it sort of cheapens it slightly, or maybe I just don't have a sense of humor? |
