♥♥♥♥♥ A great DVD for a low point in the Showa Series.
First off, I just want to congratulate the reviewer "gencus," part of whose Amazon review of one of the older GR DVD's got mentioned in the audio commentary on this new disc. He's the guy who did the snowcone analogy/metaphor/whatever. Congratulations, dude. You're an official part of Godzilla merchandise history. :)

I ordered this DVD from Classic Media's website along with Terror Of Mechagodzilla. I already have their other releases and didn't want to shell out money for the box set which contains discs I already own, and I certainly didn't want to wait until late April to own these. I recieved 'em in less than a week's time. I'm glad I didn't wait.

Both discs look and sound terrific. Both are the "newest" Godzilla movies Classic Media has the rights to so they're probably the best transfers out of the whole lot. You wouldn't confuse them for 2008 mega-blockbusters, but for films of their age which never really got the respect they deserved in the home video market in terms of quality, they look (and sound) pretty phenominal. You get the Japanese versions and the American versions, just like the other discs in this series. I wish Classic Media had the rights to this entire franchise. Sony admittedly did a stellar job with their respective discs, but CM has the upper hand in packaging and bonus goodies. About the same in the quality department.

Am I rambling?

Godzilla's Revenge may be the most disliked movie of this long-running series. It's clearly aimed at kids and smacks of "rush job." Most of the monster action is stock footage from Son Of Godzilla and Godzilla Vs. The Sea Monster. The main character is a kid whose mind provides us the key to Monster Island. All of the action is in his head. And we've seen all that there is to see in this movie before (unless you watch Godzilla movies for the human drama). Arguably, it's a pretty pointless film.

Oh, and Minilla is in it. And he talks. Like Barney.

That said, it's entertainig/inoffensive enough and is fairly short. I get more joy out of watching this than half of the movies in the Millenium Series (oh yeah, I went there). It gives us one of life's little lessons in the form of guys fighting in rubber suits: stand up for yourself. A classic Godzilla movie. Or, rather, a "classic" Godzilla movie.

I'm glad I bought it, if only to complete my collection.

Again, bravo to Classic Media. You've done a fine job. Now bring on Rodan!
