The Outer Limits (The New Series) - Sex & Science Fiction description
MGM is grouping episodes from the new Outer Limits anthology series by theme rather than chronology for DVD, and this first collection compiles six episodes that focus on matters of the heart (and other body parts). Alyssa Milano's nude scene in "Caught in the Act" will probably garner the most attention, but the disc's strongest hour is "The Human Operators," a thoughtful, award-winning take on man vs. machine that's adapted from a story by science fiction legends Harlan Ellison and A.E. van Vogt. This reworking of the 1963-1965 science fiction series is competent but lacks the palpable suspense of the original series. Also, there's no sense of new ground being broken with its stories; the original series took risks with its parables on war ("Soldier") and technology ("O.B.I.T."). The new Limits also tackles issues, but the end results pack a lesser punch. Hardcore sci-fi fans may take to this tempered-down version; all others will find it mildly diverting. --Paul Gaita |

Hey big boy, want to do something naughty?!
|
This collection deals with sex, yeah, sex. Whoopee! Well, no, it doesn't go THAT far, but these six episodes are interesting, anyway.
This is the rundown of the six episodes:
1) "Caught in the act"
A woman infected by an alien parasite becomes the ultimate Dracula, only this time, it's not blood she's after!
2) "Bits of love"
A survivor of Earth's last holocaust is living in style, in the ultimate bomb shelter. The computer programming for his shelter begins to go "outside the box", and live like he does. as an equal. The only problem is, he doesn't want it to.
3) "Valerie 23"
A paraplegic is "voluteered" by a friend, for a project that will create a "companion" that will fulfill his every whim. Things are going well, until it begins to fall in love.
4) "The Human Operators"
A man on a sentient ship, as a repairman, begins to question his existence, when he finds out that the rest of the crew was murdered by the ship when it became sentient. Another ship comes, so the "mechanics" of both ships can reproduce. What they ultimately do, however, the ship cannot stop.
5) "Skin deep"
A man who is preoccupied with vanity tests an electronic "Image Enhancer" and finds his life transformed because he is no longer "Average Joe". Things begin to go bad when he cannot outrun the secrets of the people his enhancer copies.
6) "Flower Child"
An alien lifeform lands on Earth (where else?), transforming itself into a beautiful copy of a woman, so it can reproduce, and take over the Earth.
This collection has interesting episodes, like "Bits of love" and "The Human Operators", but overall, the DVD is as entertaining as other collections of the new series. |
