Hope they do better next time
|
UM is a great band, really unique in the jamband scene. I've been downloading their shows from the LMA, as well as buying a few on-line. So, since I'll probably never see them live (I'm in France), I figured Id get this DVD to get an idea of the band and what they're like on stage.
The band is great, musically, and the sound on the DVD is excellent. However, the video is poor, the filming amateurish, and the "effects" (mostly split-screens and the like) are cheesy at best. It's one thing to have wavering hand-held shots, but when they are out of focus as well, it looks like they hired a bunch of college kids to do the filming. In addition, the songs are not chaptered, so you can't skip from one to another, and the song names aren't displayed at the beginnings of the songs. As a relative newcomer to the band's music, this disappoints me, since I can't even know which song I'm listening to.
It's a shame, because all this definitely detracts from the overall experience. Nevertheless, it gives a glimpse of the band performing live, but I hope the next DVD is filmed better than this. |
