Can't believe this film is coming to the U.S.A.

I am surprised that this movie is getting a DVD release in the U.S. I knew it would never get a theatrical release. This a Turkish film about the American war in Iraq. It portrays Americans as evil, to say the least. The American soldiers are all dressed like G.I. Joes, and they look for any excuse to shoot people. In this film, Gary Busey (who apprently was available) plays an American doctor who works at the Abu Grahib prison. His job is to extract the prisoners' organs and sell them to Israel (as well as the U.S. and Britain, but mainly Israel). Gary Busey doesn't get much screen time though. He's not a major character.
This film opens up with a true event that happened on July 4th, 2003, when Americans raided a secret Turkish base. Turkey, our allies, thought that this was just a routine visit, but it wasn't. America wanted to be the only power "calling the shots" in Iraq. 11 Turkish officers had bags put on their heads and were imprisoned that day, and were incacerated for nearly 60 hours. Turkey calls this the "hood event," and they took it very personally.
It's all fact up to this point. While the rest of the story is fictional, it is all based on actual events.
Polat Alemdar, a Turkish secret agent, is asked by one of the officers who was humiliated and arrested that day, to seek vengeance on U.S. special forces commander Sam William Marshall (Billy Zane), the commander in charge that day on July 4th. His original intention was not to kill him, but when he gets to Iraq, he sees that the land's culture, history, and values are being completely disregarded. Marshall's men are killing and arresting anyone they please with any excuse they can.
I encourage Americans who are interested in this war, whether conservative or liberal, to see this film, just to see another point of view. It's an interesting film and gives the Middle Eastern point of view on Iraq. |
