Vampire Princess Miyu - Ultimate Set (Complete Series + CD) description
Although Toshihiro Hirano (Magic Knight Rayearth) directed these broadcast episodes, they lack the panache of the earlier OAVs; both were based on the manga created by his wife, Narumi Kakinouchi. This version of Miyu is less aloof; she enrolls in a Tokyo school and makes a few friends. Larva is more of a companion than a servant, and his mask conceals the face of a bishonen (beautiful boy). He and Miyu are joined by Shina, a spirit who resembles a cross between a rabbit and a Pokémon Clefairy. As the Protector, Miyu battles Shinma, evil spirits that attack humans, but the many episodes suggest she isn't particularly effective at the job she's destined to fulfill. In one episode, a Shinma uses a thug as an assassin; Miyu calmly remarks, "It's not really my concern how many people you have him kill." In "Your House," she destroys a cat-Shinma only after it's caused four deaths, and she gives several victims a fatal eternal happiness with her bite.

Two extended storylines frame the shorter stories. One pits Miyu against the snow demon-Shinma Reiha and her obnoxious talking doll Matzukaze; the second involves the evil bird-demons who are determined to destroy Miyu. Although Miyu's childhood experiences link the two plots, neither achieves a coherent resolution. The limited-edition boxed set includes a soundtrack CD and a charm like the ones Miyu and her friend Chisato carry. (Unrated but suitable for ages 16 and older: considerable violence, nudity, grotesque imagery, suggested lesbianism and incest) --Charles Solomon

♥♥♥♥♥ The weakest vampire anime I've seen yet.
Man, it's a good thing I'm not new to anime. If I was this would be my last title. Or maybe I would have loved it because I haven't seen anything better. Vampire Princess Miyu is an average anime at best. But I find it slightly below average.

It has an interesting enough story. Not original at all but still interesting. There is a race of demons called Shinmas that were sealed away in the darkness. Some escape and look for weak hearted humans to completely destroy their lives. Miyu with her companion Lava are the protectors of the real world and send these creatures back to the darkness.

It started out interesting enough. A dark and creepy tone. Good narration during the opening with a good theme. Decent animation but nothing too special. And a decent plot for the first episode. Most of the stories are dark themes. Dealing with obsession mostly and the outcomes aren't what one would expect. To be straightforward, don't look for happy endings with this one. They are very few and far between.

Sounds like a very good series right? Well its a shame that the creators tried to tell a story in 26 episodes when they could have done it in 6-10 at the most. The anime is very repetitive. From the second episode on almost to the end with the exception of one two parter around episode 11. The episodes follow the exact same formula to the point where predicting what is going to happen becomes very annoying. The reason why it's annoying is because you're going to always be right. I kid you not, it's that simple.

A disgruntled person is introduced. They are obviously somehow controlled by a Shinma. Then Miyu intervenes. Miyu almost gets beat up. She calls her companion Lava. Lava hacks the creature. Miyu creates a flame and burns the creature uttering the same lines. "Return to the darkness Shinma!" Then Miyu, the good soul that she is. If the person is still unhappy in some way that's if they survive. She grants them eternal "happiness" by drinking thier blood. In english folks, she kills them. This exact same sequence constantly takes place, give or take 2 or 3 times. Until another sub character is introduced to toss a blizzard here and there. In which Miyu uses the exact same fire technique(uttering the same lines), which happens to be her only one. To be honest the sub characters were far more interesting. The character designs for the Shinma's aren't that impressive either. To me they're awful. Reminds me of Arc The Lad.

A real plot does happen to take place around the very last episodes. But why sit through almost 20 repetitive, a few rehash episodes to come to this conclusion? The OVA is also added in this collection. But I was so bored with that I won't even really comment on it. Miyu is without a doubt the single most uninteresting main lead vampire I have ever seen in anything.

The collection I got for very cheap. Is the import version which played very well and came as four disk and no CD. I kind of feel cheated with that because the anime does have a good music score.

If you're a new anime fan looking for some action anime with a decent to great plot. A very formidable main character, or at least a main character who doesn't always look inferior next to their subordinates. Then I don't think it's a good idea to buy this. If you can rent it for cheap then do that. I recommend passing this by and watch other anime series and movies out there. Like Cheveliar d'Eon, Hellsing Ultimate, Basilisk, Kenshin, Blue Seed, Blue Gender, Noir, Gunsmith Cats, Baki the Grappler, 8-Man, Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, Bleach, anything other than this. I'm not saying it's that bad. Its just not good.
