| This movie was quite hard work. I love Korean movies and I prefer a plot which requries some thought rather than being led by the hand to an obvious conclusion. However I have to admit I spent about half this movie trying to figure out what was going on.
A movie will generally start by 1) introducing the characters and then having events take place, or, 2) by throwing you to a situation with the characters and then revealing more about them over time. "Yesterday" didn't really do either. The opening scenes are interesting but you have no clue as to the relationship of the characters (which in the case of the Captain and the young boy just means you dont understand the significance of the scene at all). You don't realy start getting a feel for the characters until about two thirds of the way through the movie.. which feels like quite a long time. This makes it hard going watching the movie. You spend more time wondering whats going on instead of trying to figure out whats going on (if you know what I mean). Overall the movie is worth watching.. it is well filmed, has good acting, etc... it just feels like hard work wtaching all the way through. |
