Disappointing
|
We have been very happy with our Sony products. we have had two Sony TVs AN XBR, and a trinatron. both used for 25 years day and night, and never needed a repair. We bought the Sony Bravia 26 inch for 1300.00 without a HD tuner (This was not the XBR model) but we had high expectations based on our past history with Sony products. We were sadly disapointed and the set has been returned. The auto settings were often to bright or to dull seldom were they spot on.Frequently we needed to reset the picture manually . Do yourself a favor, check out this TV picture in a store, when you do be sure to view how they have the picture settings and be sure to change them while in the store ! you will find on Auto it is tweaked all the way up.take some time and play with the settings in the store.
At home it will be a different story,if you are to close the picture quality can be quite poor ! to far and you cannot see detail. We used a new HDDVD player and a componant DVD at times the picture at 1080 was stunning while viewing in a comfortable range. but more often we found both the picture and the need to readjust an irritant.A large part of our complaint is The picture was lacking so much in depth it seemed very flat(is this the nature of an LCD set? I don't know ) there were also problems of clearity, and movement ,not smooth ,it did not flow but it was the one diminsional flat quality of the picture that we found to be most of an irritant, rather than to view the picture as stunning HD as we had hoped. Also switching from one video source to another was more difficult than necessary. In addition, while watching standard formatted programs you loose a great deal of screen size. and to compensate you can view full screen but the picture distorts quite a bit .The sound was lacking also we found it to be thin and tinny. For 1300.00 we had hoped for better quality.I know this is a rather vague review and is lacking in the technical points.
but I felt the need to share what information that we had. Given the price of this set and fearing many others like us would simply see this as a "Sony" so therefore may be inclined to give it a bit less scrutiny . I would also add that the price seems to be dropping rather fast. Three months ago this set was priced over 1400.00. The drop in price may be saying something about this product. Consumer Reports March 2006 has LCD Plasma and Tube TV ratings that may help you sort out the right set for you.thanks for reading this,It is my first Amazon review .I do hope it helped. |
