Not the BEST Job Site Boombox out there.

My wife bought me this boombox because I work construction and I'd go through a radio every few months. what are the pro's and con's of this critter?
Pro's
1. Durable, tough, you can stand on it, flip it on it's end and use it as a stool.
2. Waterproof and dust proof (mostly).
3. Fairly decent (not great) reception both AM and FM.
4 Decent CD player that plays mp3 CD-R disc.
Now the con's ...
1. Bulky in-line power adapter on cord, very annoying, should have been built in.
2. Loses station set/tuning if unplugged, even with batteries in it.
3. Somewhat large, and not nearly loud enough for size. Considering job site noise.
4. Can not fine tune if another station with a stronger signal is near by on the dial.
Sony said this thing uses 6 "C" batteries, well it's actually 6 "D" batteries. Over all this product is not up to Sony's overall quality. I mean it's tough it's not going to break easily on you, but the radio tuning and disc track memory leave a lot to be desired. You'd think if you had batteries in the radio and you unplug the power cord to move it, it could at the very least remember what station or what track it was on. This is really bothersome if you are in the middle of a 200 mp3 disc. Seems to go through batteries rather quickly too.
I'm giving it 3 stars, because it had lasted longer than most of those in the past as I've had it about a year now. But the true rating should be 2 1/2 stars, it's not great and it doesn't suck, it's right down the middle. For the price though it should be far better than it is, you can buy a lot of cheaper radios that will do the same job for less money.
What's the BEST job site radio? Well soon as I find out I'll let you know, I'm beginning to believe there isn't one. Quality is just not what it use to be. |
