♥♥♥♥ Zune 80 owner's quick comments
As many reviewers here have already posted exhaustive good and bad comments of the Zune 80, I will relate MY specific experience.

I got mine from ZuneOriginals.net with the tatoo artwork and message personalization on the back. The laser engraving is high-quality, but the alignment on mine is slightly off: close inspection reveals the 3-line inscription tilts just a bit upwards. I wrote my own inscription, so it's cool knowing that no one else in the world has a device like mine.

BIGGEST GRIPE: The device does not act as a typical shared hard-drive. You cannot store files on it if they are not one of the accepted formats. Plus, I cannot just plug my Zune into any computer and expect to get music/vids/pics off of it. The software must be installed on the PC, AND I'm limited on how many PCs the software can recognize my device. I knew all this beforehand, but I still bought it for its other excellent qualities.

SOFTWARE: Easy to use, BUT... even with the latest updates, I had experienced some weird sync issues (skipped files, repeating files, etc). However, I seem to have resolved this by deleting duplicate MP3's, renaming files, and resaving JPEGs. The only thing I haven't solved is that some songs are shown with a wrongly associated album while playing.

SOUND/MUSIC/RADIO: Sound quality is fine, even without an equalizer. The premium phones came with a few extra earpieces for in-ear comfort, and I like how each earbud has a magnet so they can be stored together. I don't like how playlists can ONLY be created on the software (wish it could be created on both the SW and the device, although songs can be added to a "QuickList" while on the device). Radio works great- it automatically seeks stations and is very clear.

SCREEN & MOVIES: Really pleased with the screen, although it's a fingerprint magnet. Movies play well: some are more pixelated than others, but that's due to the quality I chose when I converted them to MPEG-4 (dvdXsoft Zune Video Converter).

PHOTOS: Pictures look great, and I like being able to listen to music while viewing slideshows of the photos. Software note: selected photos were skipped over during the transfer. I resolved this by opening these JPEGs and simply resaving them.

OTHER: Haven't tried wireless transfer to another Zune. Got the A/V pack and works really well, so I've been viewing photos and movies and listening to music from my TV. The global artwork available for download on the Zune website is phenomenal.

PACKAGING: The packaging Z-Originals 80 came in is, if at all possible, even NICER than the regular Zune 80. The typical brown box with pink/orange trim is replaced with white box, gold trim. Along with the expected transfer cable and headphones, Z-Originals also included a microfiber pouch. All of this was inside a large white box with gold lettering and shipped inside a FedEx box.

SUMMARY: 4-stars for being an overall great, sleek, and hardy device (no skipping even when dropped). It does, for the most part, what I want it to do.
