If you're excited about digital television but aren't quite ready to invest in an HDTV set, consider Hitachi's 36SDX88B digital-ready TV. This standard, 4:3 aspect-ratio set is capable of receiving progressive-scan signals with the addition of an HDTV set-top box. It offers a VGA input and is compatible with 800 x 600 SVGA computer resolution. The UltraBlack Invar picture tube with Dynamic Focus isn't up to the task of reproducing text files like a PC. It is, however, capable of reproducing gorgeous digital images with the help of Hitachi's Flex Converter technology, which makes this one of the most affordable HDTV-ready TVs on the market. Although the tube is a standard 4:3 aspect ratio, the 36SDX88B is designed to accommodate 16:9 (letterbox) broadcasts when you're ready to add that set-top converter. |

The best HD-Ready set out there
|
| This is the best HD-Ready set that is made. This is the only direct view set that has Svga/vga inputs and Wideband Component inputs. The set also does the anamorphic squeeze where many hd-ready sets can't. Unlike the RCA mm36100 or Toshiba 36x81 this set can display a true high definition image in a 16x9 frame. That makes this a true HDTV. The set also includes a built in line doubler. |
