Beware of harsh treble...
|
A very nice, solid little pair of speakers, with two important reservations:
1. The tweeters on these, and their next-of-kin 3012cf, are not of the mellow, silk variety found on other reference speakers. If you anticipate any problem with overpowered high notes -- cymbal crashes, Joni Mitchell's voice, etc -- these can leave you feeling as though you've had a dentist drill in your ear canals. This seems to be particularly acute if they're set up on your dash, with the sound being reflected against the windshield before reaching your ears.
2. The magnets on these speakers are enormous compared to the factory cones you're replacing, and you may find that they fit awkwardly in the original slots; with my Saab, eg, I have yet to find a way of forcing the grilles back into place... hence, I'm driving around with two ugly holes peeping up at the windshield.
Still, I give them a '4' because I believe the ideosynchrasies mentioned are largely an effect of Swedish automotive design; if I were filling 3.5" door slots on another car, for instance, I'd buy these again. |
