JVC HX-GX7 Compact Audio System with 5-Disc CD Changer description
The design equivalent of the HX-GX8 but without the DVD player, the JVC HX-GX7 is still packed with features for the discerning music fan. The portable 550-watt audio system is particular suited to people with a taste for thumping bass, as its speaker system includes not only twin 80-watt main speakers (each with two 5.38-inch cone woofers and a 2-inch cone tweeter), but two 195-watt Hyper Power Drive subwoofers. The overall effect is vast and powerful, giving listeners the ability to liven up a backyard, picnic area, or beach with dance-club-like audio ("dance club" is even one of the three live surround modes, along with hall and stadium). The system comes with a five-disc CD changer with play exchange (plays the current CD while the user adds others), in addition to an AM/FM tuner and a full-logic dual dubbing cassette deck with CD synchro start recording.

The speakers and main unit combine to deliver rich, full-bodied audio for everything from CDs to CD-R/RWs to MP3s. The flexibility extends to the music modes--one each for pop, rock, and classic, plus three custom choices. Other user favorites include a programmable wakeup and sleep timer; a demo mode; Compu play; continuous, random, and repeat play for one or all five discs; and a rotary encoder volume control. Signal transfer is coordinated by the 1-bit dual DAC.

The center unit of the HX-GX7 is compact and easy to transport, though the robust speakers are a bit bulky, each weighing nearly 30 pounds. The system is designed as a standalone unit, so it's not equipped with a wealth of inputs and outputs, though it does include a headphone jack.

What's in the Box
Main unit, speakers, remote control, user's manual.

♥♥♥♥ most HIDEOUS-LOOKING minisystem in recorded history!!!
My sister bought one of these for her 11 year old son, he loves it, blends in really well with the rest of all the sci-fi toys and action figures he's got strewn all over his room.

As for sound quality? Ha! Even crappier than your typical crappy cheap minisystem, looks like JVC spent all their money on the FUGLY form factor and bought the cheapest speaker and electrical components out there. Makes the Sony and Panasonic minisystems in this price range sound like audiophile equipment for Chrissakes.

Oh well I guess if you're 11 years old and will be using this thing mainly for Xbox and TV watching it might suffice. Just don't ever try to actually LISTEN TO MUSIC on this thing.
