PPM50H3Q 50IN PLASMA 13X7 Black description Optimized for professional applications, Samsung's 50-inch PPM50H3Q gas-plasma television features a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, 1,366 x 768 native pixel resolution, and sophisticated plasma technology--all of which adds up to vivid professional presentations or exciting home theater. Samsung's exclusive Digital Natural Image enhancement technology (DNIe) improves every image on every level, ensuring outstanding image detail, contrast, color, and motion. The PPM50H3Q does not have a built-in NTSC or ATSC tuner, so you'll need to use an outboard tuner (such as found in a DVR or VCR) if you want to view cable or television programming. This is an EDTV monitor, which means it's a step closer to high-definition or HDTV than standard displays. When used with a progressive-scan DVD player or high-definition DTV set-top box you'll get seamless, razor-sharp images from your favorite movies and concert videos. The display accepts full 720p/1080i HDTV inputs and a range of PC input (VGA to full 1,600 x 1,200 UXGA) and scales them for seamless 720p viewing. With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the big-screen PPM50H3Q is a mere 3.1 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. You do, however, need to be wary of image burn-in (wherein long-held stationary images leave a permanent impression in the screen), though this set goes the extra distance to offer special technology to prevent burn-in. The PPM50H3Q features a Digital Visual Interface (DVI) for a pure, lossless connection with a DTV set-top receiver or other compatible device. It also offers 2 HD component-video inputs and 1 each standard composite- and S-video jacks. A pair of RS232C jacks (1 in, 1 out) assist in integrating the monitor with other equipment. You can even use multiple displays to compose a Matrix Video Wall (2 x 2, 3 x 3, 4 x 4, 1 x 5, or 5 x 1) for an image measuring a full 100 inches diagonally.
