Panasonic SLSX270 Portable CD Player description
Active music lovers are going to flip over Panasonic's SLSX270 portable CD player. Its slim, lightweight body and rounded edges make it a natural to carry in hand or pocket. And the fabulously effective 40-second skip protection is a jogger's dream--try as we might, we can't get the SLSX270 to skip once this feature is engaged.

Other highlights include 24-track programming, Panasonic's X-SBS bass boost, lightweight headphones, and a hold function that saves battery life by preventing accidental turn-on. Hold also locks the unit in an uninterruptible play mode if this is desired.

The player's sound is warm and easy, but the headphones project a slightly hooded quality we hear with vocals. In addition, the X-SBS bass boost cannot be defeated--an option that we definitely miss. Even with X-SBS, bass isn't overpowering. Nor does the SLSX270 play as loudly as other portables we've tested--but it was still loud enough for us!

Two AA batteries have a healthy 28-hour lifespan, even with antishock engaged, and the supplied AC adapter helps prolong battery life while you're listening at home.

All in all, Panasonic's SLSX270 is loads of fun and a terrific value, underlined by a generous one-year warranty. This is one portable CD player that's all substance and no flash. --Wayne Garcia

Pros:

  • Antiskip feature works like a charm
  • Hold feature
  • 24-track programming

  • Headphones are slightly muffled

♥♥♥♥♥ Beware Audiobook Listeners.
This is fine for listening to music cds, it has a good anti-shock feature that prevents skipping. The earphones that come with it are trash, the sound quality is horrible, I switched my sony earphones on it and it was a huge difference. I bought this specifically to listen to audiobooks. MISTAKE! Yes, it has a resume feature where it "saves" your place - kind of. Some players save your place in the exact spot where you left off. Not this model, it will only save your place at the beginning of the chapter you were on, so you have to listen to the whole chapter all over again if you were near the end. I am disappointed, not worth my $40!
