Great HDTV, with DivX DVD to boot!
|
Beautifully designed, this TV is a great buy! This set is HD ready, with the HD tuner built in. Off-air HD digital reception is fantanstic. We have the TV in our dinette, so not hooked up to our cable in the den. I cannot comment on how the reception would be on digital cable. However, I can say our off-air is great. We have four stations broadcasting 16:9 HD, and another 14 broadcasting digital 4:3, with several analog broadcasts thrown in, so lots of choices. Colors are saturated, details crisp.
The DVD player is slick. At first, when you unpack the TV, you think you've gotten the wrong unit without the DVD player. Low and behold, though, the DVD slit to receive the disk is disguised in the front of the thin stand. Way cool. Unbelievable movies, and DivX to boot! Remote control is easily navigated.
Sound is good with adjustable EQ. We leave the EQ on movie, as this is more robust, even for voice. EQ settings are presets that cannot be adjusted, which could be a notch down for some, but should not be major because the sound quality (in this size TV) is very satisfying out of the box. Numerous inputs will allow many types of devices to input into the TV, if needed, including your computer. The one minor letdown was that the sound out is digital only. So, if you wanted to enhance the sound, like for movies and games, and all you've got on your stereo system are RCA-type aux inputs, such as with many shelftop stereos and iPod-type sound systems, you're out of luck. However, if you have digital input for sound on your sound system, then the sound quality will be pure digital, so I'm sure will be great on your system.
We've only had the set a few weeks, so cannot comment on durability or quality of the build. Hopefully, if we have problems, Philips will be good about service. We've never had a problem before.
In any case, your own eyes and ears, as well as your purposes for purchase and use, will be the final decision, of course. However, you ought to give this unit serious consideration. We are now planted in our dinette, preferring to watch this little beauty rather than the big screen in the den! |
