Polk Audio Monitor Series CS1 Center Channel Speaker, Black Finish (Single) description
The name "Monitor" is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value. The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging all at a price that made great sound available to everyone.

The newly reborn Monitor Series is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven by unpretentious receivers, and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish contemporary look, modern titanium faces, and bold stabilizer feet on the tower models. Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound.

The CS1 center speaker has been designed to be the perfect match for Monitor Series speakers in multi-channel systems. The CS1 features a high efficiency design to reveal the classic Polk Audio sound (open, spacious and clear) even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers.

The 1" (25mm) fabric/polymer composite dynamic balance dome tweeter with powerful neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments. Ultimate flexibility comes via the reversible-design cabinets that can be turned upside down to aim up when placed under a video monitor.

♥♥♥♥♥ Great budget center channel speaker! Bad seller...
I ordered this Monitor CS1 and Monitor 40's to replace the speakers in my Onkyo HT-SR800 HTiB...HUGE improvement in sound quality. They will play very loud and clear without distorting with the crossover set at 80 or 100hz. While they don't produce the very realistic 3D soundstage you get with more expensive speakers (high-end Polks, internet direct brands like Axiom/Ascend Acoustics, etc.), they will blow away any HTiB system for just a few more dollars. You definitely want a subwoofer with them, and a great budget sub is the Velodyne VX-10 here at Amazon.

*edit*
The only complaint I have is that the finish on the top of the speaker is somewhat marred- it looks as if a paper towel or something with similar lint touched the top of the speaker after it was painted leaving two 3"x3" patches with lint. This is somewhat peculiar because the speaker has a vinyl veneer type finish instead of paint. It came sealed in plastic wrap in a factory Polk box and was sold as new, not refurbished. It's placed in my TV stand so you don't see the defect, but if it was placed in front of a projector screen on a stand or in front of a wall mounted flat panel, I would have definitely sent it back.

*edit #2*
They must have sent me a refurbished model or a return, as now I'm hearing some distortion while watching movies, mainly in masculine male voices. There's also a popping sound coming from the tweeter when switching audio sources or adjusting speaker levels in my receivers setup.
This was purchased through Amazon affiliate "WholesaleAV" in case anyone wants to avoid a possible refurb passed off as new.
