♥♥♥♥ Good bang for the buck!
I bought Sony DAV-FX80 my system last year right before the Super Bowl (Seahawks vs. Pittsburg) to replace my ancient Sony setup. This was a particularly a good buy buy because of the price to feature ratio (HDMI was a must since I had just bought a 42" DELL HDTV). If you don't know already, this is a HTIB (home theater in a box, which is basically an all in one receiver, dvd, radio tuner). Astetically, the very first thing that is noticable is how sleek everything looks, very nice while being a little large (mainly because it has a 5 disc rotating dvd player). The box comes with all the non expensive cables (did not include the HDMI cable (why would they, it cost me $80)), wires, stands and a remote (which admitably is not very good, or useful, but works). Setup was really easy since everything was color coded (although you could match different colors at the expense of length). The key feature the unit has going for it is the DVD playback via HDMI (at the time this was pretty hard to find for an affortable price). There was extremely noticable difference when using the HDMI as opposed to component cables. The quality is fantastic. Sound quality.....is good to decent. I'd rate this around a 7-8 probably because the rear speakers are pretty tingy (not tiny, but they produce inside of a can type sounds). Now I'm not a real sound expert, so maybe this by design. I usually have the sound at max during the day at 20 ( I think there's 30-35 adjustments) and maybe I'm just not getting the full effect with standard TV (via optical in). Admittably, when playing a DVD and cranking the sound up a bit does wonders, so maybe it's just low volume isn't it's forte. The tuner works quite well and the unit has plenty of pre programmed sound fields like dolby prologic II (THX would have been nice, but this is an HTIB after all). I do have 1 real problem with the Sony DAV-FX80. It's the DVD loader. Quite honestly it sucks.....bad. I like the front loading sucking in your dvd/cd loader (sort of, if you have small kids, watch out), but getting it to work is a whole 'nother manual. You will need to press the corresponding DVD number you'd like to load or eject and THEN press eject.....again.....and again.....and quite possibly again to get the tray rotated and stay there. If you wait to long, it will rotate back to the previous DVD number is was on (wait for it to rotate). This can be quite annoying when you think the loader is ready. Personally, at times I just wanted to ram my DVD's in there. Thankfully ejecting DVD's actually is a little easier, just select the number you want to eject and press the eject button a bunch of times (probably not what the manual states) so the system knows you want to eject. Luckily, once it ejects (and you have another DVD you want to play in hand) stick the new DVD in the loader and it will snap it right up. It's really a bit of DVD roulette. Anyway, I really like this unit and will keep it for quite sometime (probably another 3-4 years) be for I upgrade again. This really is an old review since I'm pretty sure that this model is discontinued now. But, if you can get it used or at a discount, I wouldn't pass it up.

Pros:
HTIB - everything you need all in one package
Great quality DVD via HDMI
Sub woofer is of high quality
Optical In
Good clear LCD
Mulitple sound fields to choose and personalize

Cons:
Rear speakers are not wireless (who wants to run cables all over their house?)
Rear speakers feel like thrown ins
DVD loading is terrible
Remote is lackluster
No HDMI cable
