Sony LF-X11 12.1 inch Location Free Wireless TV description
Sony's LF-X11 LocationFree TV puts the age of mobile lifestyles and high-speed network connectivity at your fingertips in the form of a portable, broadband Internet-enabled LCD television system that you can use virtually anywhere in the world. This is an update to Sony’s first location Free TV the LF-X1. This new model takes the features of the first, and then slims down and lightens the base station, offers a longer range (100 foot vs. the previous 50 foot), and introduces huge improvements in ease of setup, internet video streaming using the high quality MPEG4 format, and a new dualband wireless antenna that can switch on the fly between 2.4 and 5 GHz signals to ensure the best wireless signal without interference from other devices. Beyond those improvements, both the monitor and base stations sport sleek new designs, and the included base station can also be used in conjunction with your Sony PSP, or wireless connected desk top or lap top PCs, at home, or far away via an internet connection.

Weighing less than an average laptop PC (5 pounds 1 ounce), the wireless LF-X11 consists of a 12.1-inch LCD TV with a standard 4:3 aspect ratio, 800 x 600 native pixel resolution, and an accompanying base station. The base station houses connection terminals, an NTSC broadcast tuner, and a wireless transmitter. The monitor runs on a supplied rechargeable lithium battery, while the battery charger works on universal power (AC 100 to 240V) for use in most countries.

The LocationFree TV is lightweight and easy to tote from place to place. Using Sony's first dual-band wireless system (2.4 and 5 GHz), the base station transmits video content to the touch-panel screen--there's no mouse required. The set delivers stable video and audio signals without interference from other 2.4 GHz devices such as microwave ovens and cordless phones. Internet and TV content arrives from the base station by way of secured device authentication and encryption technology, making the system perfect for Internet surfing in Wi-Fi hotspots and via Ethernet ports found in hotels, airports, and other locations.

The innovative system employs the IEEE 802.11a, b, or g protocols for a wide selection of transmission channels, and it switches the channel automatically to minimize monitor interference across a range of up to 100 feet from the base station. The 802.11a/g standards support a higher bit rate than the conventional 802.11b standard, helping the set maintain stable, high-quality video images. The LocationFree TV also uses advanced Quality of Service (QoS) technology, which delivers extra bandwidth security for reliable audio-video transmissions, even in high-traffic wireless environments.

The LF-X11 is a multitasking chameleon. It weighs around 5 pounds and includes angled-line correction circuitry for smoothing out jagged lines; motion-adaptive I/P conversion circuitry for improving fast-moving action scenes; and a digital-audio amplifier for crisp sound with minimal distortion. It also features picture-in-picture capability and an audio-video input for connecting to a camcorder, game console, DVD player, or other entertainment device.

The LocationFree TV autoselects the strongest wireless signal so you get the best transmission wherever you're watching. When the base station and the wireless monitor are each connected to the Internet through your existing ISP, you can easily and quickly access the Web, exchange e-mail, and shop online using the onscreen keyboard. The unit can also morph into a digital photo album, displaying custom slide shows from its built-in memory or from Memory Stick media, which plugs into a dedicated flash-memory port.

Beyond just using this device to access the internet in your home, you can also use the NetAV feature to stream DVD ot TV content from your home system to a PC anywhere on the internet. Setup for the NetAV feature is as easy as basic setup of the device, and uses Sony’s Worryfree setup through an intuitive online GUI.

Filling the role of an intuitive graphical user interface (GUI), the onscreen universal remote and onscreen keyboard heighten the LocationFree TV's uniqueness and versatility. Sony's GUI simplifies navigation of all aspects of the set. You can even use the screen itself as a remote to switch from channel to channel or from function to function. (A USB port facilitates hookup of an optional physical keyboard.)

The base station houses an Ethernet port for broadband compatibility S-video, and 2 composite video inputs, two stereo audio inputs, and an input for your TV cable. There's also an IR blaster for added control and convenience.

What’s in the Box
12.1-inch wireless touch screen LCD Monitor, base station unit, lithium ion battery, IR blaster, stylus, AC adapter (for base station and monitor), operations instructions, DVD instruction video.

♥♥♥♥♥ What a little gem...
I only use the portable TV functionality, not the mobile web, etc., etc. So this review rating is based on my absolute satisfaction with this wonderful little piece of technology.

I love the outdoors and this little TV lets the patio, porch, garage, woods, wherever, instantly become a great place to watch the game (check customer pics). You'll find all kinds of uses for it, like in the kitchen cooking or washing dishes, on the vanity watching ESPN in the morning or soaking in the tub and it's light w/a handle, so you won't mind carrying it around.

The screen is small at 12 in., but the picture quality is so good, you'll enjoy watching a whole game. It's bright, even at an angle and the battery life is 2.5 to 3 hours for me. Buy the craddle charger and a 2nd battery which will charge before the other runs out, so you can swap and keep watching. The sound is absolutely amazing for those little tiny speakers, it doesn't seem possible. I get range over 100 feet.

There isn't a remote for it, which is the one improvement I'd like to see, but the touch screen becomes a virtual remote with a "tap" and sends channel changes, menu, guide commands, etc. back to the cable/satellite box. It even works with my DVR. I have wireless phones and wireless network, but interference hasn't been a problem. I occassionally can get a "pause" in the picture, but it never approaches annoying.

Everyone who has watched this TV with me seems to want one and I'll buy another if anything happens to this one. That rates 5 stars from me. bhvideoproducts did a great job with my order and had copies of my receipt prep'd and ready for mailing in the rebate. Note, the actual rebate check was a small postcard and looked like junk mail, almost threw it out.
