TrekStor i.Beat Drive 256 MB MP3 Player with SD/MMC Expansion Slot (Silver) description
Enjoy all your favorite music on the move with the TrekStor i.Beat drive digital music player. The unit--which supports MP3, WMA, and WAV audio formats--is compact and lightweight, with a silver housing that measures a mere 3.8 by 1.2 by 0.9 inches (W x H x D). More significantly, the i.Beat drive's 256 MB of flash memory is expandable thanks to the SD/MMC card slot. By itself, the player stores roughly four hours of MP3 and eight hours of WMA music, but when paired with multiple Secure Digital or MultiMediaCards, the storage capacity is limitless. The device is no slouch from a playback perspective, either, with such options as repeat play (one or all songs), shuffle, repeat shuffle, and intro play. And navigation couldn't be easier due to the intuitive scroll wheel and the sharp LCD display, which offers a 96 x 26 pixel resolution.

Though the i.Beat drive is primarily designed for music, the unit also functions as a mobile storage device, with the ability to hold text files, small photos, and other data. Listeners will also dig the integrated microphone and voice recorder, which lets them record voice notes, lectures, and interviews in WAV format. And should you need to free up space on the player, it's possible to delete files without connecting to your PC first.

Other details include a direct USB 2.0 interface that plugs directly into a USB port (no cable required); an easy-to-hold soft-touch housing; support for ID3 tagging; a multilingual user interface; and five predefined equalizer settings (jazz, classical, normal, pop, and rock). The i.Beat drive--which comes with stereo headphones and an integrated neck strap--is compatible with Microsoft Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, and XP, Mac OS X 10.3.x, and Linux from Kernel 2.4.x operating systems and runs for roughly 10 hours on a single AAA battery (included). The device also carries a one-year warranty.

What's in the Box
i.Beat drive MP3 player, stereo headphones with neck strap, AAA battery, user's manual.

♥♥♥♥♥ Great idea, poorly implemented
Pros:
- Built in USB connection. No cables to find.
- SD card slot: tons of storage
- standard AAA battery
- easy to use

Cons:
- no way to select which directory to play or start at
- no way to select internal vs SD card (starts with internal and then works its way to SD if it's there)
- NO WAY TO RESUME WHERE IT LEFT OFF - it would be perfect for listening to long lectures or audio books, but if you stop half an hour into a 1 hour lecture, you have to start at the beginning again
- no fast forward
- SD card sticks out (barely worth mentioning)

If I can find one like this that resumes where it left off, I'll buy it and toss this one.
