Best low cost 1080p monitor out there...
|
I love this monitor. The first thing I did was hook up a Philips 727 progressive scan DVD player and watch "The Incredibles" using the component input. It looked INCREDIBLE. But I'm hoping to get better performance for other DVDs by using the DVI input with an Oppo DVD player (on its way). The TV does an admirable job of upscaling everything to 1080p, but I'm hoping the Oppo can approach the sharpness of HDTV...
Speaking of which...
I have been watching the Olympics in HD for several days and it looks truly impressive. I compared this screen at the store with the Olevia 37 and some $2999 Toshiba 37". This looked sharper than either of those models. Comparing the fence surrounding the hockey rink showed no moire patterns on this screen whereas the other displays showed clear artifacts on the fence. HD is a joy.
This also works well as a computer monitor. My powerbook worked immediately with the monitor detected as a plug and play display. It displays at the full 1920X1080 resolution and millions of colors.
One thing to note is that the latest models of this display all have 1000:1 contrast ratio. The 600:1 information is outdated. The blacks look great once you lower the brightness a little.
The speakers work well. Of course using a home theater setup will sound better, but for the interim, the included speakers sound great.
One caveat... the first one I purchased failed to turn on: DOA. Purchasing at a local store might be preferred since return shipping can be quite expensive. |
