Standing 3.1 inches high, it's an easy addition to any home theater configuration. In addition to standard DVD movie and CD audio discs, it can also play content burned to CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, and DVD+R/RW discs. It will play MP3 and WMA songs, and it's compatible with video burned to disc using the DivX video format. You can also enjoy photo slideshows, thanks to compatibility with JPEG image files. The four-head VCR offers 8-event/1-year programming, one-touch recording, SP/SLP recording, slow motion, frame advance, auto tracking, and a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner. You'll enjoy crisp, clean audio and video reproduction thanks to the 14-bit/108 MHz digital/analog (DA) video conversion and 24-bit/96 KHz audio DA conversion. It also offers Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound decoding (and 2-channel mix-down) as well as virtual surround sound through two-channel speaker set-ups. DivX is a compressed digital video format (like MP3) that's based on the MPEG-4 video compression standard. It can reduce the video from a DVD (MPEG-2) to around 10 percent of its original size while still retaining good video and audio quality, enabling you to store several two-hour length movies on burned DVD media. Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections.
