Zenith Z50PX2D 50" Plasma HDTV description
Enjoy bright, brilliant imagery from high-definition telecasts and your favorite DVD movies with the 50-inch Zenith Z50PX2D EDTV-ready plasma television, which includes built-in high-definition (ATSC) and 181-channel standard broadcast (NTSC) tuners. With the integrated ATSC tuner, you'll be able to receive off-air high definition broadcasts without the need for an external set-top box. The R57W47C also features a digital cable tuner (QAM), which allows for the reception of digital cable signals that are not scrambled.

With a gas-plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the Z42PX2DH is less than 4 inches deep, perfect for desk placement (on the supplied stand) or wall mounting (with optional mounting kit).

The Z50PX2D's screen offers a 1366 x 768 resolution for an extremely detailed image, as well as a 160-degree viewing angle, 1000 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating, and stunning 8000:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.)

The 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing feature detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth theater-like experience at home. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter analyzes consecutive scanning lines within a field as well as the preceding and following fields. This results in improved detail and color purity, a more stable video image, and nearly eliminating dot crawl and color bleeding. Other video features include color temperature adjustment, aspect ratio adjustment, enhanced noise reduction, and a 60,000-hour screen lifetime. It includes such television features as V-Chip parental controls, sleep timer, custom channel labels, and tri-lingual menus (English, French, Spanish).

The 30-watt stereo audio system (two 15-watt speakers) delivers ample sound for sports and movies, and it can also provide SRS TruSurround XT virtual surround sound. It offers the following video and audio connections:

  • Composite AV (RCA) In: 1 (1 rear, 1 side)
  • Composite AV (RCA) Out: 1
  • S-Video In: 2 (1 rear, 1 side)
  • Component Video In (Y PB PR): 2
  • HDMI In: 1
  • RF In: 2
  • VGA PC input: 1
  • Optical Audio Out: 1
  • PC sound (1/8"): 1

Tech Talk
HDMI -- HDMI makes an uncompressed digital RGB connection from the source to the screen. By eliminating conversion to an analog signal, it delivers an unblemished image. The non-degraded signal reduces flicker and leads to a clearer picture. HDMI intelligently communicates the highest output resolution with the source device. The HDMI input is fully backward compatible with DVI sources but includes digital audio. HDMI uses HDCP copy protection.

♥♥♥♥ You will need a new one every two years!
Bought the 42" version in 2003 - completely dead by 2005. I was convinced into "upgrading" to a 50" in Dec. 2005 - Just died yesterday again... completely without warranty, so far my "early adopter" status with Zenith has cost me about $8,000 - and I have two funky things to throw out that the trash guy doesn't appreciate. JUNK.
