The iAudio G3-1024SW 1 GB MP3 Player with FM Radio and Voice Recorder takes MP3-quality to new heights with its proprietary MP3 chipset and industry-first MP3 file filtering and sound enhancement technology. With the iAudio G3 you can enjoy up to 50 hours of continuous playback on a single AA battery along with both an FM stereo radio with clock feature and a voice recorder with microphone.

The iAudio G3 puts an end to endless waits for music downloads by offering USB 2.0 download speeds of up to 20 Mbps, and upload speeds of up to 25 Mbps. The player's five direction key gives you one-handed control of most common iAudio G3 functions, while the bright, 4-line graphic LCD screen supports lyric displays and makes it easy to see file information at a glance. Its FM radio can pre-set your favorite stations, and the full-function voice recorder lets you record music from the radio, important meetings, lectures, or personal memos. The iAudio G3's JetShell software enables the creation and editing of playlists directly on the player, as well as CD ripping and file transfers. You can save non-music files to the iAudio G3 and say goodbye to clumsy floppy disks and data CDs.

The iAudio G3 is compatible with both Linux and the Mac OS, and comes with superb Cresyn headphones, giving you superior sound reproduction with a balanced tone. It supports MP3, WMA, ASF, WAV (including 48 KHZ Stereo), and OGG file formats. You can directly encode old records and tapes into digital audio on the iAudio G3, and if you need a wake-up call, just use the clock's alarm function. The ultra-slim design of the iAudio G3 features a basic white color offset by a silver stripe outlining the LCD display. It comes with a fashionable carrying case and convenient neck strap for easy portability.

♥♥♥♥ good audio player

This is a great digital audio player. Not only does it play a wide variety of different file types, it acts as a flash drive, audio recorder, and radio as well. I find the sound quality to be very good on Mp3s and WAVs (haven't tried other file types). It uses a single AA, and the battery life on standard alkalines is amazing, reportedly 50 hours, which would make it close to 200 hours on a lithium AA (which I prefer to alkaline for uses like this). I haven't tried it with a Nimh AA yet.

The audio recording with the mic is not great, although it would work well enough for quick memos and emergency recordings when the G3 is all you had handy. I have not tried the direct line to Mp3 recording, so I cannot comment on that.

I also haven't tried the FM reception, as I don't care much for commercials and DJ chatter with my music.

It is easy to operate and carry, although the clear vinyl case that comes with it can be difficult to get on and off for battery changes. I have tried the earphones that come with it, as well as several others that I already had, and have been pleased with the sound. It seems reasonably solid, although I doubt it would survive serious abuse. I have had it fall a foot or so onto concrete without a problem.

My big likes are: the variety of file types (Mp3, Mp2, WAV, WMA, ASF) it plays back, and that it can record line level direct to Mp3; the fact that it is not so small one needs tweezers and a microscope to use it; AND,

the use of a regular AA battery - THIS is a biggie for me, folks.

The proliferation of proprietary batteries is a far bigger problem than the use of a standard size battery which can be used in many different devices. There are great AA rechargeables around (Nimh), and you don't have to buy extra, expensive, device-specific batteries every time you get a new device (or get a new device, or send yours in for repair because you can't change the battery yourself). I avoid buying or recommending devices that have proprietary batteries whenever I can. Also, if your rechargeables fail, you can always substitute standard alkaline in an emergency. Having hundreds, if not thousands, of different, incompatible battery types is a gigantic waste of resources.

I am quite pleased with it overall. The only things I would have Cowon change would be to add SD card capability, more internal memory, Ogg and Flac files, and lower the price. I hope that the lack of availability at the time I'm writing this doesn't mean that Cowon is discontinuing it. (Unless, of course, they are bringing out something even better!)
